What are sugar alcohols? And why does MaryRuth’s use them in products?
What are sugar alcohols? And why does MaryRuth’s use them in products?
Thanks for reaching out with your question! We would love to share some additional information about sugar alcohols and why we choose to formulate with them.Sugar Alcohols do not contain any kind of drinking alcohol, though the molecular structure does resemble sugar and part is similar to alcohol. They differ from sugar in caloric content and health impact, since the body digests them differently.Sugar alcohols, also called polyols, are carbohydrates that are not completely metabolized by the body, converting to glucose more slowly than other carbohydrates and requiring little to no insulin to be metabolized. For example, xylitol, one sugar alcohol that we use, has 40% fewer calories than sugar, and is significantly lower on the glycemic index.MaryRuth’s uses sugar alcohols in some of our products to make them more palatable and as a great sugar substitute for many of our products! This way we are able to make great tasting, low or no sugar supplements. We hope this additional information helps. Please let us know if you have any additional questions we can assist with!

Difference Between an Expiration Date vs. Manufacture Date?
Difference Between an Expiration Date vs. Manufacture Date?
You’ve probably noticed that some dietary supplements have an expiration date (sometimes called best-if-used-by date, and best-by date), while others include a manufacture date instead. What is the difference between them all? When used on a product, Manufacture Date is often abbreviated as “MFG”. This is the date that the product was made. A product with an Expiration Date will generally have the abbreviation “EXP”. This is the date that the product is determined to expire. Similarly, best-if-used-by date, and best-by date: abbreviated as “BB”. These dates indicated that a product is best if consumed by that date. There are a wide variety of reasons why a company may choose to use manufacture dates over expiration dates on their products, and one is not necessarily better than the other. Most companies, regardless of whether they use manufacture dates or expiration dates, have many other quality assurance measures in place to make sure that, as a consumer, you are receiving the best possible product!
